Superstar striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, has just sent the football world in a frenzy as news broke today that the Portuguese talisman wants out of Manchester United, and has let the club know.
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, finishing as United’s top scorer, but couldn’t push them into a spot to qualify for the Champions League. The striker single-handedly won the Red Devils games last year but has now had enough of the struggles in Manchester.
After 19 straight years of playing Champions League football, maybe it should have been more obvious that he probably wasn’t planning on breaking that streak. Manchester United had a below average season for their standards, finishing 6th in the Premier League table and comfortably in the Europa League next season.
The number of suitors for Ronaldo shouldn’t be overly great as it’s clear he wants to play in the UCL at bare minimum. Potential teams in the mix already include Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Real Madrid and even his boyhood club, Sporting CP. Wherever the superstar ends up, it will massively shake up the European footballing landscape and likely create some big-time narratives for next season.
The management at Manchester United are believed to have accepted Ronaldo’s decision, but will surely try to get the most they can for him. If the right bid comes in, we will be seeing Cristiano Ronaldo in a new jersey next season.
Personally, I think this might end up just fine for Manchester United. You take some money and are now truly off to a fresh start under Erik ten Hag. They haven’t made much of a splash in the transfer market yet but with all the rumors swirling around players like Frenkie De Jong, we should see Manchester United with a team that’s ready to compete come August.
