Tyreek Hill Receives Support From Former Teammate After Being Traded

Earlier this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs traded star receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Immediately upon the trade, Hill received a four-year, $120 million extension with the Dolphins, which included $72.2 million guaranteed. Former teammate and current Chiefs guard Trey Smith does not blame Hill for heading to Miami.

“Yeah, the coaches are gonna do what they think is best for the organization and for the team. And I can’t blame Tyreek; he’s getting paid,” Smith said on the J-Mart and Ramon radio show, via the Kansas City Star. “I’ll never blame a guy to get paid, but he’s got to do what’s best for him. I’m really excited to see what he does in Miami, wishing him well.”

During Hill’s six years in Miami, he played an integral part in Kansas City’s offense. In this time, Hill had 479 receptions for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns. This resulted in six Pro Bowl appearances and three First-Team AP All-Pro selections.

With Hill in Miami, the Chiefs looked to retool at receiver this offseason. In free agency, they added JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes Scantling. They also drafted Skyy Moore in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and picked up Justyn Ross as an undrafted free agent. Only time will tell if those additions will ease the loss of Hill.

“I think our front office does a fantastic job. I think we have one of the best front offices in the league,” he said. “I think they did a fantastic job in the draft and really reloading, so we’re ready and set up, in a good position this year.”

Alongside Jaylen Waddle and Tua Tagovaila, Hill will look to provide a spark to the Dolphins’ offense. Meanwhile, head coach and offensive guru Mike McDaniel will look to use Hill in a similar role as the Chiefs.
