Odafe Oweh Can’t Wait To Play With David Ojabo

Odafe Oweh thinks the Ravens got a steal in the second round when they selected David Ojabo during the 2022 NFL Draft. Ojabo likely would have been a first round pick had he not tore his Achilles at the Michigan pro day. Oweh isn’t worried about the Ojabo injury. He believes they will “wreck havoc” on defense.

“He is a natural savant in pass rushing,” Oweh said. “You can see it in the way he spins, you can see it in the way he takes the edge. He’s just a bendy, twitchy dude

“He’s coming into a defense that he already knows so he’s ahead of the curve,” Oweh said. “He has a guy like me that’s going to teach him the ins and outs so he doesn’t go through a rookie year where you don’t know what you don’t know.”

There is a chance if Ojabo pans out, this Ravens pass rushing unit turns into a special group. Oweh had an electric rookie year coming out of Penn State. All of the flashes were there and he delivered on a solid rookie season (five sacks, three forced fumbles). Add that to Tyus Bowser who had seven sacks a year ago. The Ravens may have quietly put together a young and scary group of pass rushers.

Of course, that’s not exactly what’s being displayed by the media right now. There have been reports that the Ravens are in pursuit of a veteran pass rusher. Maybe that’s Justin Houston? Trey Flowers or Jason Pierre-Paul are other options. The only thing that remains clear is that Za’Darius Smith spurning them in free agency still stings.

It’s hard to not love the gamble in the middle of the second round for the Ravens on Ojabo. There just might be a chance he’s better than his former collegiate teammate Aiden Hutchinson. He certainly has a more of an athletic ceiling. If Ojabo hits, this Ravens defense goes to another level.
