Can You Trust Dameon Pierce As A Fantasy Commodity?
Talent and opportunity creates fantasy success. When it comes to new Texans running back, Dameon Pierce, the opportunity will be there. I’m not sure the talent was ever there. Will any of it matter?
Pierce, the Texans 4th round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has an opportunity to seize the Texans backfield. David Johnson is no longer on the roster. It’s a roster now filled with old vets who have tapped out. Is anyone actually in on this Marlon Mack – Rex Burkhead duo? Can I interest you in Royce Freeman or Dare Ogunbowale instead?
The point being, Pierce can easily steal this job. It’s also an improving team that did a very good job drafting. It’s a very competent offensive line. Davis Mills should continue to improve heading into year two. There is also more stability in the coaching ranks. I wouldn’t have hired Lovie Smith, but them topping out at 8-8 every year would be a massive improvement.
The issue is, I just don’t like Pierce. I think the guy stinks. He’s slow, can’t catch, and just has no short area quickness to his game. The guy is a straight line bowling ball that probably won’t just bulldoze NFL caliber defenders. I probably would have taken 15 running backs in this class over Pierce, if not more.
The opportunity is so great here that I wouldn’t mind taking a flier on Pierce fantasy wise even if I’m not in on the talent himself. Pierce could do his best Zack Moss impression with more touches. What if this guy gets 200 carries? Telling me that’s not deemed as a fantasy commodity?
Bottom line: I hate that the Texans of all teams drafted Dameon Pierce. This was a spot that should have been deemed as a fantasy hot spot for any rookie running back and it went to a guy that’s really not that talented. Good luck.
