Shaheen Holloway Finalizing Deal To Become New Seton Hall HC

Seton Hall is finalizing a deal with current Saint Peter’s Head Coach Shaheen Holloway to become their program’s next Head Coach. This news comes from Jerry Carino who reported the news Sunday Afternoon just after the Peacocks Elite 8 loss to North Carolina. Holloway, who turns 46 in October, was a former star point guard in college and an assistant in this program from 2010-2018 under Kevin Willard. Maryland hired Willard away from Saint Peter’s in March of 2021.

Shaheen Holloway led this breakthrough team this year, earning an NCAA bid through the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference automatic bid. The Peacocks went on a three-game win streak during their conference tournament, culminating in a 60-54 win over Monmouth in the Conference Championship game. Saint Peter’s became the country’s darlings by busting brackets everywhere when they upset the 2 seed Kentucky in the first round, 85-79 in OT. They followed that up with a 70-60 win over the 7 seed Murray State in the Round of 32, then a 3 seed upset of Purdue in the Sweet 16.

Full quote via 247sports.com:

“I’m going to say this — it’s going to come off a little crazy,” Holloway said March 19. “I got guys from New Jersey and New York City. You think we’re scared of anything? You think we’re worried about guys trying to muscle us and tough us out? We do that. That’s who we are. We are a very physical team. Our bodies probably don’t look like it, but these guys play very hard and very physical.

“So that I wasn’t worried about that at all. We have played bigger teams the whole time. So them being a little bigger and stronger, it doesn’t faze us. When you got tough, hard-nosed kids, they’re ready to play.”
