Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Few Suspended for September DUI

Gonzaga head coach Mark Few has been suspended by the university for three games for a September DUI arrest, as first reported by the Athletic.

Few will miss Kraziness in the Kennel this weekend, two exhibition games against Eastern Oregon and Lewis-Clark State, respectively, and the season-opener against Dixie State on November 9th. He will return for the highly anticipated and expected top-five contest between the Bulldogs and Chris Beard’s Texas Longhorns on November 13th.

In a statement on Saturday, Few had this to say regarding the suspension.

“I have had a month to reflect on the regretful decisions I made on Sept. 6,” Few said in a statement Saturday morning. “I again offer my sincere apology and I remain committed to learning from this mistake. As a consequence of my error in judgment, I will not be present at Kraziness in the Kennel and the first three games of our season. I know this impacts our student-athletes and the coaching staff as we begin the season. I understand the severity of my actions and am sorry for the impact this consequence has on our team. Thank you again to those who have supported me, my family, and our program throughout this process.”

The 58-year-old was arrested over Labor Day Weekend in Idaho. When initially approached by police officers, evidence of intoxication was clear. Few refused a field sobriety test and opted to give breath samples which revealed a blood alcohol level of .119 and .120, according to ESPN. The legal limit is .08.

Few has accepted responsibility and is looking to earn Gonzaga’s and the school’s fanbase’s trust back.

“Please know that I am committed to learning from this mistake and will work to earn back your trust in me.”
