I am very excited to watch D’Andre Swift turn some heads this season. He is everything you want in a modern-day running back with all the opportunity to capitalize. At 5-foot-9, 212-pounds, he has the BMI to operate on the goal line which we saw last season. In just 13 games, Swift totaled 10 touchdowns for a porous Lions offense. While it won’t be much better this season, the offensive line is more improved with the addition of Penei Sewell giving Detroit one of the best line units in the NFL. These are all huge positives for fantasy football production before even mentioning Swift’s exceptional receiving ability.
Coming out of Georgia Swift was already a refined route runner who could get open at will. His rookie season showed no exception to his college production. Swift averaged about 4 receptions per game last season, giving him a solid floor in PPR leagues. But going into the 2021 season, the Lions are lacking playmakers to catch the ball. Outside of TJ Hockenson, there aren’t any other top-tier pass-catching options to steal targets from Swift. Jared Goff under center will bode well after peppering Todd Gurley with targets in the past. With all this in mind, I fully expect Swift to exceed 100 targets this season. Not only that but he will remain the goal line back who can easily hit double-digit touchdowns.
D’Andre Swift is currently going as the RB 20 in fantasy drafts. Assuming healthy, I would bet all my money that he exceeds that point by the end of the season. I wouldn’t hesitate to draft Swift ahead of Josh Jacobs, David Montgomery, and Miles Sanders. His electric profile and opportunity in the offense give me confidence in his ability to end up as a top-12 running back come the end of the season.
