2022 NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 0
College Football is so back, baby. It’s never too early to talk draft and with college football back, it’s time to get a head start. The 2022 NFL Draft starts with Week 0. Not a ton of games on this week, obviously, so you will get all the insight from the Hawaii and UCLA game. Let’s get right to it.
Hawaii VS UCLA
We have to start with UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. DTR is a fantastic athlete. There really is no disputing that. He’s not an NFL quarterback. Not close. May as well be Braxton Miller or whatever type of comp you want to use.
DTR finished the game 10-20 for 130 yards and one touchdown. I can promise you he was much worse than that. Outside of one deep throw that he hit, DTR was AWFUL the entire game. Zero accuracy on any throw. Cross him off the list if he was on one, to begin with. Can’t torch Hawaii with the way the ground game was performing, that’s a problem.
Speaking of the ground game, Michigan transfer Zach Charbonnet could be a popular sleeper name for the NFL Draft. Hey, hell of a game. Six carries for 106 yards and three scores. It also means nothing. The problem I’ve always had with Charbonnet is his lack of burst. Charbonnet looked good but it was mostly because Hawaii couldn’t tackle. It wasn’t because Charbonnet was explosive. The offensive line was punishing dudes as well. A snail could have picked up yards with those holes.
Keep in mind Charbonnet didn’t start the game. Brittain Brown did and he’s not really on anybody’s radar at the moment. Let’s see if we see that same energy against LSU coming up.
UCLA will be an interesting team to watch. This is a team that returns 20 of 22 starters. The only notable loss being Demetric Felton (who really wasn’t that notable if you read my notes from last year). A few on the defensive side of the ball stood out. Mo Osling III is a long corner that batted away two balls. Datona Jackson is a defensive lineman that came away with a big man interception. Jay Shaw another defensive back had an interception too.
It’s a bit too soon to speak on anyone’s draft stock but this Bruins defense quietly has a lot of seniors on it. Will be interesting to monitor as the season goes on (and when they don’t play Hawaii).
