Backyard Baseball Was the Best, It Needs to Make a Comeback
One of the first things I did when I started at Vendetta was a video series on Backyard Baseball 2005. Although I was completely new to video content and my series needed much better presentation, I still had a ton of fun doing those videos. My recording software stopped working, so the Mashing Taters series died out after Episode 3. Will it come back one day? Maybe. Not counting it out.
Want to Market the Players? Backyard Baseball Is a Great Option
That’s a long-winded introduction just to say that the Backyard Baseball games were awesome and should come back. Hey MLB, want a great way to market your players and the game of baseball? Reboot these games. I used to be able to play as kid versions of Sammy Sosa, Randy Johnson, and Nomar Garciappara. It would be awesome to play as kid versions of Mike Trout, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Jacob deGrom in a new game.
To be clear, I don’t want updated graphics or anything like that. I think a new Backyard Baseball game needs to be released on PC only, just like the original games were. Bring back all the original Backyard kids – undisputed GOAT Pablo Sanchez, Pete Wheeler, Keisha Phillips, etc. – and just update the pro players. Maybe even have some unlockable classic pro players from the old games.
Humongous Entertainment still exists, but they sold off the rights to the Backyard Sports franchise a long time ago. I don’t know who has the rights now, but they need to get on this ASAP.
