Robert Lewandowski And Pep Guardiola Could Be Heading Towards A Reunion

Robert Lewandowski is one of the very best goal scorers on the planet. He has arguably become the Bundesliga’s greatest striker since the late great Gerd Müller. After joining Bayern Munich for free from rivals Borussia Dortmund, the Polish international has won just about everything you could want in Germany. He’s finished top of the Bundesliga in every season he’s played for the Bavarian superpower. In 2020, he finally won the UEFA Champions League, a title that has eluded him for a long time. However, that is all in the past. Earlier today, there was the shocking report that Lewandowski would like a new challenge away from Bayern. At 33 years old, Lewandowski still has a lot of quality years left in his career. His contract with Bayern ends in 2023, only a few months before his 35th birthday.

He More Than Deserves It

Lewandowski has been absolutely legendary for Bayern Munich. The club should not hesitate to let him move on, especially given how much success the Pole has helped them achieve. It also would be good for Bayern as well. They have always been a great team, but many important players are getting up there in age. Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, and Jerome Boateng are only a few. Not to mention David Alaba, who recently departed as a free agent to Real Madrid. Furthermore, other legends like Arjen Robben, Philipp Lahm, and Franck Ribery have all either retired or left the club. If Bayern could receive something close to the 100 million pound asking price, then a squad overhaul could be very possible. Not many teams in all of Europe have that kind of money sitting around, but there is one that comes to mind…

A Sky Blue Reunion?

Manchester City has long been playing the cat and mouse game with Harry Kane. England’s captain has been longing to leave Tottenham Hotspur for quite some time. However, the possibility of Lewandowski being on the market could throw a wrench in everything. City manager Pep Guardiola knows him quite well, given their three-year partnership at Bayern from 2013-2016. The Spaniard even called Lewandowski “the most professional player I ever met” back in 2016. If Spurs remain reluctant to sell Kane, then it would not be a surprise for City to turn their efforts elsewhere.

With reports suggesting they were willing to offer up to 150 million euros to Tottenham, then the asking price for Lewandowski is well within their reach. A summer window headlined by Jack Grealish and the goalscoring Pole as well would be a historic success. Manchester City would have to be up there with PSG as the only true superteams in Europe if it happens. The move makes sense for Lewandowski as well. He will be able to prove himself in the Premier League before getting even older and chase after even more prestigious silverware.
