The Brother Of Randy Arozarena Plays Across The Street
Randy Arozarena is the young phenom outfielder stunning fans of not only his team, the Tampa Bay Rays, but also the whole country. After all, he holds the Major League record and rookie record for most home runs ever hit in a postseason with 10. The entire nation got a taste of him, especially in the World Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Rays call Tropicana Field their home. The team is also in full control and ownership of the city’s professional soccer team, the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship, which is a step below MLS. They play directly across from the Rays at Al Lang Stadium. And now there’s a new development about the team that may shock many.
Arozarena’s brother, Raiko, is now the goalkeeper for the Rowdies. The team signed him on April 9, 2021, after playing for teams in Cuba and Mexico also serving as their goalkeepers. Their father was in fact a soccer player back in Cuba. Both of the siblings were dual-sport athletes growing up, but Randy took the baseball route by storm.
“The link between Raiko’s brother being at the Rays is an obvious one for people to jump to, but I think the main thing everyone understands is Raiko’s here on merit.” – Rowdies Head Coach Neill Collins
Another sibling duo to play in the city but play different sports was Klay and Trayce Thompson. Klay is a well-known and highly regarded standout star for the Golden State Warriors. Trayce has been somewhat of a journeyman outfielder, and called Oakland his home, playing for the Athletics in 2018. Like the Arozarena brothers, the Thompsons played across the parking lot from each other at Oakland Coliseum and the former Oracle Arena.
