Texas Ballparks May Be Completely Filled With Fans This Season

Back to normality maybe even closer than we could’ve imagined. Even if it’s going about it the entirely wrong way. Texas Governor Greg Abbott will allow maximum capacity to all public places as well as not enforcing the wearing of a mask to combat COVID-19. To many, there is the fear of thousands of “super spreader events”. This also means is that Texas Ballparks might be filled on baseball’s opening day in early April.

The two stadiums in question are Minute Maid Park in Houston and Globe Life Field in Arlington. Currently, the state has recorded around 2,690,000 cases including 45,000 deaths. Globe Life has seating available for 40,000 and 41,000 for Minute Maid. It will be interesting to see how the two elements of lack of masks and max capacity will play out.

At least the Rangers are not expected to have anything close to a winning record. Last year, Texas finished in the last place in the American League West. In 2019, the team only hosted an average of 25,900 per game at Globe Life Park (where they played at that point) and it’ll probably drop even lower with how bad people expect the Rangers to be.

Houston on the other hand maybe a real factor in terms of super-spreading events. The team has some prowess and almost went all the way to the World Series last year. Many may want to attend games here, and opening day may be packed with fans.

The real fear is how it’ll affect players on the field. They’ll have to endure serious protection especially on the on-deck circle with fans merely feet away. Hopefully, the plexiglass barriers will change things. There is no telling how Texas’ protocol will affect the season and the players.
