Cody Allen has Announced His Retirement
First reported by by Jon Heyman:
One of the best closers in recent years, Allen made a career for himself when he was with the Cleveland Indians.
He was drafted by the Indians in 2010. Made it to the Big-leagues in 2012. He left the Indians in 2019, and went to the Los Angeles Angels.
But never made it to the big leagues last year with the Texas Rangers.
It’s really surprising to see Cody Allen retire at the age of 32. When he has a lot left in the tank and was receiving some interest.
Allen was a dominant pitcher, when he was at his best.
His best season came in that 2016 season, when he finished with 32 saves in 68 innings, and he finished with a 2.44 ERA.
“Allen finishes as Cleveland’s all-time save leader with 149. He is one of only five Cleveland relievers to finish their careers with over 100 saves, alongside Bob Wickman (139), Doug Jones (129), Chris Perez (124), and Jose Mesa (104). He also finished with the third-most among relievers with 440.2 innings pitched”

In 2020, we lost a lot of MLB Alum due to death. Today we lose a Former Star Closer to retirement. I always hoped that the Mariners would pick him up.
But could we see Allen as a coach or in a front office soon?
There’s a very big possibility of that. As said above, he was a great pitcher and could help others.
This is breaking news. More to come.
