Justin Herbert is the Offensive Rookie of the Year. It was pretty unanimous once he took the league by storm.
At the beginning of the season, it was a battle on who people thought would win the award. I always had Herbert winning.
The former Oregon Ducks quarterback was the sixth overall pick in the draft. Herbert threw for 4,336 yards, set the rookie passing touchdown record with 31, and added five more on the ground. He did it in just 15 games
He was the only rookie to throw for over 4,000 yards this season. With a 66.6% completion percentage.
“I think it is a testament to all the hard work we have put in as a team, the coaching staff and the players,” Herbert told the Associated Press. “It’s been a tough year, but we put in a lot of good work but just to be in the conversation [for the award] is an honor.”
Throughout the season, Herbert got a lot of praise around the league. After being the third quarterback off the board (behind Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa). Herbert stepped up when starting QB Tyrod Taylor went down.
Five teams passed him up? Did those five make a mistake?
Justin Herbert quickly became the Chargers’ franchise quarterback. He will be even better for many years to come.
His coach, who helped him get the award, was fired.
