Former Pittsburgh Steeler Urges Ben Roethlisberger to Retire

The Pittsburgh Steelers may be in cap hell next season. A big reason for that is Big Ben Roethlisberger’s $41 million dollar cap hit. Not only that the 39-year-old vet looked like a shell of himself during the second half of the season. All of this culminated in former Pittsburg Steeler Ike Taylor to call out Ben Roethlisberger to retire.

In the 2020 regular season, Roethlisberger threw for 3803 yards and 33 touchdowns to only 10 interceptions. However, down the stretch, he really struggled. In two of his last 3 games, he had a QBR of less than 70. He also threw 6 interceptions in his last 6 games. Although he threw for over 500 yards and 4 TDs in the postseason, he was unable to get the win. Mainly due to his four interceptions. Currently, Ben Roethlisberger is a husk of his former self, at an elite price.

This led two time super bowl winner and former teammate of Big Ben to call him out.

“Seven has done enough. One hundred percent, [he should retire] for me it’s the mobility part. If you look at the three quarterbacks in the AFC North, they are young. They are mobile. They’ve got playoff experience. They’re gonna let ben rock out ‘til he wants to rock out…you know the Steelers, they’re loyal.”

Ike Taylor on Big Ben

Even if Ben Roethlisberger has another year in him, he is not the quarterback that he once was. Even if he can win games, he may not be able to take the Steelers all the way to the super bowl. Ike Taylor and others may be right. It may be time for Big Ben Roethlisberger to retire. It may be time for the Steelers to find their future, and they should do it sooner rather than later.
