Montrezl Harrell: Lakers Wanted Me More Than Clippers Did

Some were wondering if Montrezl Harrell would re-sign with the Clippers, or if another team would swoop in and pay big bucks for him. It turns out that Harrell signed in Los Angeles, but with the Lakers instead of the Clippers. Clippers players were surprised by the move, like Patrick Beverly, who sent out a tweet after the signing.

However, he did say that he was happy for Trezz later on. Lakers got a steal for Harrell. Harrell surely got better offers from other teams, some may speculate why the Lakers, at least opposed to the Clippers. Montrezl Harrell explains that simply. Quote provided by NBC NBA:

“If you spend your career in any place long enough, you’re going to want to continue playing there and growing there,” Harrell said Monday. “Of course, I still have great respect for those guys and for that organization. But as far as if they wanted me back? Obviously, it just doesn’t seem that way, does it?”

Harrell continues his claim that the Clippers didn’t want him.

“I’m definitely going to be with a team that wanted me and with a group of guys that I’m going to build chemistry with fast,” Harrell

He’s not going to waver his tenacity though. He will play hard for the Lakers like he did for the Clippers.

“When I was playing for the Clippers, I gave it everything I had every night I laced up my sneakers,” Harrell said. “Now that I’m here with the Los Angeles Lakers, that’s the same thing I want to do here. I’m blessed to be on a team that was strong enough and deep enough to win the tournament and the championship last year.”

There were reports of rifts with the Clippers players. One has to wonder if that was a reason for Harrell to leave. I can’t necessarily blame him for leaving, going to the defending champs seems like the best way to get yourself a ring. If Trezz wanted to be petty about rifts with the Clippers, going to the Lakers and winning a ring there would be the best possible way to do that.
