I said the Browns would be better this year, Baker Mayfield or not. Freddie Kitchens was a horrible coach. When the Browns hired Kevin Stefanski, I knew they would be a lot better. Stefanski made Kirk Cousins look like a decent QB. I knew he could do the same for Baker Mayfield. Now, the Browns are currently in a wild card spot and Olivier Vernon saw this from a mile away. His full quote provided by ProFootballTalk:
“I saw this team had a lot of potential. How everything unfolded last year, it didn’t really go our way,” Vernon said of wanting to stay in Cleveland, via the Akron Beacon Journal. “We had too much talent, and we wasted last year. One thing that is hard to do is get a win, and the next hardest thing is get into the playoffs. I think my mindset and everybody else in this organization’s mindset right now is to get into the playoffs and trying to make something. Just have to get into the tournament.”
Olivier Vernon is right, the Browns are well on their way to the playoffs as they head into the 2nd half of the season. They are 2nd in the AFC North and have a relatively easy schedule to close out. They have the Jaguars, Titans, Ravens, Giants, Jets, and Steelers to close out the year. They’re looking at a strong 10-6/11-5 record to close out the season. It would take an act of God for them to win the AFC North as the Steelers are still undefeated. However, it would take an act of God for them not to make the playoffs.
Then again, this is the Browns we are talking about.
