Wash, rinse, and repeat; if you’re a running back for Kyle Shanahan, you will not fail. If Shanahan can get productive mileage out of Alfred Morris, then he can get high-yielding results from anyone. JaMycal Hasty has now entered the chat.
Hasty is an undrafted free agent out of Baylor. If Hasty didn’t play for Shanahan, he wouldn’t have any redeeming qualities. Hasty, 24, is 5-foot-8, 205, with 4.55 speed. He’s a small back with average speed and little power. Don’t worry; he plays for San Francisco now.
Hasty was okay in college. By no means was he close to special. Despite playing all four years, Hasty averaged 5.2 yards per carry and scored 15 touchdowns. Quick reminder, that’s in the Big 12. Furthermore, Hasty was the least talented running back at the Senior Bowl. It doesn’t matter; he plays for San Francisco now.
Thus far, Hasty looks like a smaller Marshawn Lynch. On 20 carries, Hasty has 103 yards. If this doesn’t prove how brilliant Shanahan is, I don’t know what will. Hell, Jeff Wilson Jr. is coming off a 117 yard, three-touchdown day against the Patriots. Wilson goes down, and Hasty takes over no problem.
What more is there to say? It’s plug and play with the same results. It truly does not matter who’s back there. They will find a way to become productive. If someone like JaMycal Hasty can thrive to this degree, literally anybody can.
Let’s not count the 49ers out just yet. When you can run the football as Shanahan does, you can beat any team on any given Sunday. San Francisco has suffered significant injuries at the running back position. Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, and Jeff Wilson have all been hurt in the season. Don’t worry, no name McGee is here to step up and fill the void.
