Carolina Still Hasn’t Recovered From the Pacioretty Trade, But Sure, I’m the Problem

Good morning. I woke up today and noticed Carolina Hurricanes fans are angry… again. The Gustav Forsling team-building article ruffled some feathers, apparently. You can see the comments here for yourself. The thing about it is that it’s hard to take the seriously given what happened with Max Pacioretty years ago.

Here’s the truth. Hurricane fans have been keeping tabs on me for a long time. They’re just mad that I’m right again. Instead of taking accountability, they’re throwing a hissy fit again about something I’m right about. They’ve conned themselves. Yeah, let me take Canesfan69 seriously, because his take is totally rational and unbiased.

Beyond the fact that I have no reason to take these idiots seriously, considering they took no accountability on this… the truth is the Canes are still suffering the consequences for the Pacioretty trade.

Again… no hindsight bias.

Again no hindsight bias.

Bottom line, end of story. The Canes decided to eat $7 million of dead cap on Pacioretty while simultaneously letting their second line center Vincent Trocheck leave for the Rangers. Carolina still doesn’t have a second line center, and then tried to make up lies about Tomas Hertl… because they still don’t have one.

It’s the same story over and over. Foundational pieces walk, budget pieces replace them, Carolina continues to be Cowboy Cerrone.

This offseason was more of the same. More deck chairs got shuffled. Necas turned into Rantanen, who turned into Stankoven + draft picks. Those same draft picks got shuffled out for K’Andre Miller, while we wait to see if they got burned on Scott Morrow at the same time.

Sure, Eric Tulsky wasn’t “the guy” for all these moves, but he’s been in the building forever. This nerd movement will never work. In reality, these people are just mad I would run their team better than the people who are actually in charge.

Here’s what’s especially funny:

  • These same Canes fans would worship Forsling if he were still in Carolina.
  • They still pretend the Pacioretty cap flip wasn’t a massive L, despite the fact that he tore his Achilles twice under their care and gave them literally nothing.
  • Their response to being outmaneuvered is just to cry bias instead of addressing the meat of the argument.

They know I’m right… They just don’t like who it’s coming from.

I’m hitting them where it hurts: the illusion that they’re “one move away.”

They’re not. Their model is broken at the top. Forsling just happens to be the canary.
