While not officially official, Jackie Bradley Jr, for all intents and purposes, has retired from MLB. The longtime Red Sox outfielder is transitioning to a new career path and is joining the media realm. JBJ has joined ESPN, but it’s probably not in the role that you had in mind.
The former South Carolina product will join ESPN as a college baseball studio and game analyst:
“I’m honored to join ESPN and can’t wait to get started covering the game that I love,” Bradley said in a statement. “College baseball has grown a ton since I was at South Carolina, and I hope I can contribute to the sport’s continued growth and popularity through our coverage of the student-athletes who give it their all.”
Bradley, 35, is a two-time Men’s College World Series champion and the 2010 MCWS Most Outstanding Player while playing with the Gamecocks. The Red Sox selected Bradley 40th overall in 2011 after the second championship with South Carolina. JBJ will likely be seen a bunch during the College World Series when that time comes.
The 11-year MLB veteran obviously had a successful career at the Show, too. JBJ won a Gold Glove and was part of the historic 2018 championship team in Boston. Definitely an unsung hero during that run and won ALCS MVP that season. Was never a consistent hitter, but Sox fans have grown used to that as fans in Boston are getting something similar right now with Cedanne Rafaela.
