PSG Signed Rico

After being on loan from Sevilla, goalkeeper Sergio Rico has himself a new deal. He went to Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) last September on loan. Now PSG has signed Rico on a four-year deal.

The clubs agreed upon a fee of £5.3 million deal. The contact will last until 2024.

Rico made an appearance for PSG in 10 games for all competitions, including Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and helped get to the Champions League final.

At Sevilla, he made 170 appearances to help win two European League titles.

He also went on loan to Fulham in the 2018-19 season when they found themselves relegated out of the Premiership.

Rico has also won one cap for Spain. Although a good goalie, he will most likely continue to play backup for Keylor Navas.

Regardless, PSG is happy to have him aboard.

“The club would like to congratulate Sergio and wish him every success as he continues his career with the Rouge-et-Bleu,” a club statement said.

Sevilla is still looking for another goalkeeper. Months ago, they were linked to a loan deal for Chelsea FC’s Kepa Arrizabalaga. Frank Lampard has not found a new home for the Spaniard and is in a rush with the English Premier League (EPL) start just around the corner.

Lampard could loan Kepa out to Sevilla but would be out on a keeper. The other option discussed was a swap with Valencia and Ajax. Kepa would leave for Valencia to replace Jasper Cillessen. Then Cillessen would move to Ajax to replace Andre Onana. Then Lampard would happily accept Onana at the Blues.

The clubs have one more month until the Oct. 5 transfer window closes. Some teams continue to scramble to close on their final transfers. Sevilla only has a few more weeks to replace or find a backup for Tomas Vaclik.
