After eight seasons with the Cleveland Browns, EDGE rusher Myles Garrett has released a statement today requesting his release from the team. The former Defensive Player of the Year states his goal is to win a championship in the NFL, and it took him seven seasons too long to realize that won’t happen in Cleveland, but credit to him for coming to his senses now. The talented pass-rusher will become one of the biggest players in league history to request a trade, and should spark a ton of trade debate over the coming weeks. Ian Rapoport was the first to break the news.
“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have a requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.“
The return that the Cleveland Browns will get for Myles Garrett could be massive. This is a defensive-heavy draft class, and with Cleveland already picking second overall, they could take a swing on a quarterback or replace Garrett with Micah Parsons-lite in Abdul Carter. It may be hard to see it now Browns fans, but the future just got a little brighter with the news of this Garrett trade request. The picks and salary relief will be worth it.
