Suns Are Only Team Willing To Pay Jimmy Butler He Wants

Jimmy Butler has been seeking a trade from the Miami Heat since December 25th, 2024 (Merry Christmas Heat fans). About a week later, he echoed what he said on Christmas Day and said he wants out of Miami. The day after he said that, he was been suspended 7 games from the Miami Heat for conduct detrimental to the team. Butler is eligible to play with the Heat again on January 17th, 2025 at home against the Denver Nuggets. However, it seems unlikely as the feud between Butler and the Heat rages on.

This could have stemmed from the Miami Heat (correctly) not offering 35 year-old Jimmy Butler a 2-year $113 million extension in the offseason. Brian Windhorst has more information on the Jimmy Butler situation. Quotes are provided by Real GM:

“We have a big problem here because Jimmy Butler isn’t going to extend with any team,” said Windhorst on First Take on Tuesday. “Because teams know that, they are offering the Heat right now the poo poo platter.”

“There’s only one team that’s ready to pay Jimmy Butler exactly what he wants and that’s the Phoenix Suns.”

“We are at a genuine stalemate,” said Windhorst. “I don’t know how it’s going to play out. The Heat are preparing internally for this to last past suspension. Not because they have some sort of sinister motive but because they know what offers they’ve gotten and they stink.”

“At the heart of this, it’s about money,” said Windhorst.

For Jimmy Butler, it makes sense that this is about money. The Heat did not extend him and he still wants his money. The only problem is that Jimmy Butler is an aging star and that’s not really the market for a lot of NBA teams with a contract of his stature. The Heat have no leverage right now because there seems to be only one team that is willing to pay Butler a contract he wants: The Phoenix Suns. Who knows what that trade could look like?
