Musburger Media Reacquires VSiN Back From DraftKings

Remember when I said this? Is anybody willing to argue against this now? Let’s be real about what happened here. The same thing happened with Dave Portnoy and Penn National Gaming. Penn acted like they knew what they were doing. Then Barstool started bleeding money. Then they sold it back to Portnoy for a literal fraction of what it cost to buy them. Now DraftKings is following that same blueprint with VSiN.

DraftKings purchased VSiN and now they’re giving it back to the Musburger family. Brian Musburger and Bill Adee will reacquire VSiN and will operate it moving forward. An announcement from VSiN was made available on their website.

That announcement includes these two vital quotes marked in bold:

“WHILE A LOT HAS CHANGED IN THE SPORTS BETTING INDUSTRY OVER THE PAST THREE-AND-A-HALF YEARS, OUR ORIGINAL VISION FOR VSIN STILL HOLDS AND WE ARE COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE MOST CREDIBLE, INDEPENDENT INFORMATION AND ANALYSIS SPORTS BETTORS CAN FIND ANYWHERE,” SAID BRIAN MUSBURGER. “WE TRULY APPRECIATE THE WORK WE’VE DONE WITH DRAFTKINGS AND LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO COLLABORATE ON FUTURE PROJECTS. BILL AND I COULDN’T BE MORE EXCITED ABOUT LEADING VSIN INTO THE FUTURE AND CEMENTING OUR POSITION AS A TRUSTED AUTHORITY IN SPORTS BETTING.”

“DRAFTKINGS CONTINUES TO OPTIMIZE ITS INVESTMENTS IN CONTENT AND MEDIA TO ALIGN WITH THE MOST CRITICAL AREAS AND NEEDS OF OUR BUSINESS STRATEGY, OBJECTIVES, AND GOALS,” SAID STEPHANIE SHERMAN, CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER, DRAFTKINGS. “WE WANT TO THANK BRIAN, BILL, AND THE ENTIRE TEAM AT VSIN FOR A GREAT RELATIONSHIP, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO ADVERTISE ON THE NETWORK.”

Translation… VSiN was bleeding money and DraftKings wasn’t going to bankroll them anymore. It’s up to Musburger and Adee to keep the thing financially afloat. As an owner of a sports media network, something that’s harder than it looks given that clicks are everything. If you go to VSiN’s YouTube channel, it’s not like they’re exactly killing the click game. DraftKings will remain involved but only as an advertiser now.

Barstool Sports Strikes Deal With DraftKings

We’ll see what this means for VSiN moving forward. Will they keep everyone they have currently on staff? That part remains to be seen. Still, they do go stuff and I’m an on-record fan of Michael Lombardi. They produce good betting guides and maybe getting away from DraftKings turns out to be a good thing. They have a ton of live shows that go throughout the day.
