Recently, Scott Logush detailed the fantasy football profile for Ramiz Ahmed. Could the Bears backup kicker become a fantasy hero? Well, in order for that to happen, Ahmed will have to beat Eddy Piñeiro out during camp and the preseason. Who wins the Bears kicking job or does it even matter?

Piñeiro acknowledged the pressure is on. His job status is far from safe:

“The first year with the Bears was a good learning experience,” Piñeiro said on Thursday night’s Bears All-Access, via the team website. “I think there’s a lot of room for improvement. I think I can get better. And I’m hoping for another successful year this year. Hopefully I can get my percentage up a little bit. The biggest learning experience for me was kicking in a windy game and then going to a dome, that transition. I feel like I’ve matured a lot as a kicker and hopefully this year goes good for me.”

“Obviously, there is pressure,” Piñeiro said. “They brought in somebody to compete, so I’ve got to compete. I’ve got to win my job like everybody else. Everybody has to compete and win their job.”

Ramiz Ahmed converted 75 percent of his attempts at Nevada in 2019. Piñeiro, the former University of Florida place kicker, converted 82 percent of his field goals and 93 percent of extra points. However, there is still room for improvement. From 40-49 yards, Piñeiro was just 3-7 on the year. That’s not good enough.

So… who wins the Bears job? Will it be Eddy Piñeiro or Ramiz Ahmed? Either way, Matt Nagy will find a way to complain about it as he refuses to forget about the Cody Parkey double doink. I think it still haunts him at night.
