Olumuyiwa Fashanu 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Olumuyiwa Fashanu, AKA Olu, is next up on the docket for the 2024 NFL Draft Profile series. What do you need to know about the Penn State offensive tackle? Let’s just do this damn thing and talk about it.

Fashanu, a three star prospect hailing from the Washington DC area, was actually high school teammates with Caleb Williams at Gonzaga. After redshirting in 2020 and playing sparingly in 2021, Fashanu emerged as a quality left tackle for Penn State in 2022 and 2023. Fashanu ended the 2022 season on the shelf but his overall play took a dip in 2023. The voters, however, did recognize Fashanu’s talent after naming him First-team Associated Press All-American and Big Ten Conference OL of the Year.

The former Penn State product checks in at 6-foot-6, 312, with 34 inch arms. Unfortunately, we have no Combine information to work with after Fashanu got hurt running. He did finish with a 5.11 and 32 inches in the vertical. While we didn’t get to see him move around in space, Fashanu has the prototypical size you look for at the position. I’m just not sure he’s an elite athlete for it. The recruiting profile backs that up and there are just a lot of times he looks like a robot rather than a natural athlete in pass block.

He’s gotten better over the years at Penn State. Probably helps when you constantly practice against some of the monster pass rushers they have. Was a team captain there and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I’m just not quite sure how good he really is. Against good competition this year, Fashanu got chewed up. J.T. Tuimoloau beat the living piss out of him in the game against Ohio State and that wasn’t a one year thing. Not sure he’s as strong as he needs to be and is way too upright sometimes.

Good stance and really locked in as a pass blocker. Can be a bit goofy as a run blocker especially if he needs to get to the second level. Uses his length well and pretty good opening the hips up getting to where he needs to be.

I like Olumuyiwa Fashanu, I’m just not sure I love him. He falls in a similar tier to Joe Alt, for me. Good player, just don’t see any evidence to suggest he’s generational. Would be willing to pull the trigger in the late first / early second round range.
