Justin Gaethje: I Don’t Plan To Be Alive The Day After My Fights

Justin Gaethje has a reputation as one of the most violent fighters in UFC history. In a peak into his mentality about fighting, Gaethje stated that he does not plan to be alive after he fights. The length Gaethje has gone to produce violence in the octagon is unparalleled.

Gaethje spoke about his mentality at UFC 300 media day.

“I am a quarter-mile at a time kind of guy,” Gaethje said. “I do not look too far ahead. I honestly have no clue what the future holds. I don’t usually plan on being alive the day after my fights. Hopefully, I am there on Sunday.”

Any doubts about Gaethje’s status as the BMF champion can be put to rest. The acceptance of death as being a regular part of his job is as hardcore as it gets.

What’s even crazier is that Gaethje fights like he has accepted health. The resume of all-time classic scraps is second to none. This statement does not even come as a shock when you think about the insane fights he has been in. If he was not willing to die, he would have quit in a handful of those fights.

The most compelling evidence that Gaethje is serious is his reaction to losing by knockout. In his two career knockout losses, Gaethje disputed the stoppages while barely being conscious. It’s not even about being a sore loser, it’s about refusing to quit as long as his body is still functioning.

In his UFC tenure, Gaethje has fought Dustin Poirier, Rafael Fiziev, Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, Eddie Alvarez, Edson Barboza, Donald Cerrone, and more. It is an insane body of work for only having 12 fights in the promotion. If that isn’t enough, he has won Fight of the Night seven times and Performance of the Night five times. The streak of violence against top-tier is unmatched.

At UFC 300, Gaethje will have a chance to further his claim as one of the most entertaining and violent fighters of all time in his fight against Max Holloway for the BMF Title.

If you ever find yourself watching Gaethje fight and fail to understand how he can create so much violence, remember this statement. The man literally does not plan to be alive after his fights.
