Taulia Tagovailoa 2024 NFL Draft Profile

If the last name sounds familiar, that’s because it is in fact Tua’s brother. There is another Tagovailoa taking his talents to the NFL level. Let’s review the Taulia Tagovailoa 2024 NFL Draft Profile as we discuss everything you need to know about the former Maryland signal caller.

Tagovailoa, the all-time leading passer at the University of Maryland, isn’t that different from his brother Tua. If you read the Stock Report Notes, you know I view him as a worse version of his brother. Was really bad against real competition in the Ohio State game. Still, the overall skillset is relatable. The biggest difference is that this Tagovailoa is actually right handed. Tua is technically a righty too but we know his father influenced that.

Taulia is most similar to his brother in two ways. Both have limited arm power and are deadly accurate. Tagovailoa has D level arm strength but his pure accuracy is really good. During his career with the Terrapins, Tagovailoa is at over 67%. He’s the most successful passer in program history in a number of different categories including that one. He’s even the all-time leading passer in the Big 10. Was second-team all Big 10 two years in a row too.

Tagovailoa knows how to pick up first downs. He’s really good at getting the ball to where it needs to be. It’s Tua’s bread and butter. Taulia just isn’t quite as talented. However, he might be a better runner than Tua post hip injury. Still, Taulia was forced to leave Alabama despite the Tide never having a clear answer at the position.

Checks in at 5-foot-11, 208. Former four star guy coming out of high school. The biggest thing helping Tagovailoa at this point is that he was head and shoulders the best quarterback at the East-West Game. When you’re accurate with the football and can move, you’re going to go places. He just doesn’t clear the arm strength threshold and that may ultimately kill his stock. How good can you be if you can’t complete vertical throws? Especially at that frame? Can move but not a crazy athlete either.

I have Taulia Tagovailoa as an undrafted player but he’s worth a look as a backup. Maybe he’s such a confident thrower of the football that he can make it with deadly accuracy.
