Dillon Johnson 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Dillon Johnson is one of many Washington Huskies entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Where does Johnson factor into the running back class for the draft? That’s why you’re here so let’s keep things moving.

For starters, I think it’s important to note that Johnson wasn’t even pegged to be the starter before the season. That job belonged to Cam Davis until he was lost for the season with a lower body injury. He’s the better player scoring 13 touchdowns as a freshman and was pegged to start for a reason. Davis is back at Washington for this season.

Johnson was thrust into a starting role and performed admirably. During his lone season with Washington, Johnson notched 1,195 rushing yards on 233 attempts (5.1 YPC) and 16 touchdowns. He was also mixed in sparingly in the passing game adding 24 receptions for 190 yards. What’s weird is his receiving totals went way down from his time at Mississippi State.

Speaking of Mississippi State, Johnson spent three years there. The production is nothing to really get excited about. Never crossed the 500 yard rushing mark in any season there. He also didn’t get on the field much either. Originally from the state of Mississippi, Johnson was a three star recruit coming out of high school.

I’ll be honest; this guy just bores me to death. I have no idea what there is to be excited about here. I’ve watched several Washington games and he is just there. A classic “just a guy”. This is not a freak show. Just a regular person playing football. During the season I pointed that maybe he could be another Salvon Ahmed or Myles Gaskin. I never went too in-depth on the guy because the skill set just is what it is.

As I said during the Combine, slow and not surprised about it. The Washington product notched a 4.68 time at the 40. Didn’t do any of the short area stuff (no 3-cone or 20-yard shuffle time). No bench press either, which is the only thing he might have had going for him. Except I don’t see a ton of power when watching him play. Checks in at 6-foot, 217. Physical runner that’s going to have to make a living winning in short yardage. Going to have to work his way in the mix as a grinder. Nothing special going on in the lower body either.

I have Dillon Johnson as an undrafted free agent who wouldn’t be considered a priority free agent. He’s there. Give him that. Otherwise, we’ll see if he makes a roster after the preseason.
