Antonio Gibson has signed with the Patriots but how should fantasy football managers feel? I’m sure many of them don’t care (and I’m probably in that boat) but let’s talk about it anyway.
For starters, this offense goes through Rhamondre Stevenson. That’s not a secret. He’s the only good player they have on the entire offense. During a contract year in the final year of his rookie salary, I’d expect New England to run him into the ground.
Gibson, 25, is going to be there to take the load off. I’m sure he will get some rushing attempts and some catches but does it even matter? This feels like an injury handcuff more than anything. If you have Stevenson, maybe go get Gibson as an insurance policy. Other than that, I’m not sure there is much value here.
Don’t forget, Gibson might return punts here too. I wouldn’t discount the idea that he’s there to really be a gadget guy. You know… like a better version of Ty Montgomery (who the Patriots seem to love for some reason). If that’s the case, then there really isn’t any fantasy value outside of rostering him in case of injury. That’s how I see it anyway.
More than that, this Patriots team stinks. It’s going to be a rookie quarterback running the show and the roster blows. If this Patriots team doesn’t improve, then what’s the point?
If you play in a lineup league, I just have no idea how you ever know when to start a guy like this. Gibson might have a few break-out runs but you will never actually know which weeks they will occur. Yes, this is my campaign to go play best play. Please stop living in the Stone Age so that I can hate people less.
Thanks.
