K.J. Jefferson: Top 5 Landing Spots?

It was reported last week that K.J. Jefferson is expected to enter the transfer portal. The former Arkansas Razorbacks dual-threat quarterback is going to be a high target in this year’s transfer portal, so let’s put together the top 5 teams Jefferson should consider transferring to.

(Note: This list is not in order)

1. South Carolina:

Probably the favorite to land the former Arkansas Razorback signal caller: the University of South Carolina. South Carolina becomes the favorite due to their offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, who already has a scheme that fits perfectly with Jefferson.

Loggains previously worked with Jefferson at Arkansas in 2021 and 2022. He was hired by current Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman to become the tight ends coach for two seasons before heading over to South Carolina. If Jefferson were to transfer to South Carolina, he would immediately be plunged into the starting role with a previous understanding of the playbook.

In my eyes, I don’t see Jefferson being a so-called “perfect” fit with the Gamecocks. South Carolina wasn’t miles better than Arkansas last season, and if Jefferson wants to raise his draft stock, South Carolina isn’t the “perfect” fit, but is certainly one of the best for him.

2. Ohio State:

As we saw this season, Ohio State missed C.J. Stroud. I have been saying it all year. Kyle McCord is a below-average quarterback and hasn’t shown any flashes of potential.

As of now, Ohio State has minimal quarterback talent on its roster. McCord and sophomore quarterback Devin Brown are the only true contenders for the Buckeyes job. Ohio State not only has minimal quarterback talent on their roster, but in their recruiting class for 2023.

Jefferson also fits the Buckeyes offensive scheme very well too, showing flashes of a young Justin Fields with his mobility. Jefferson can run when it matters most. His elusiveness allows him to scramble when needed if he’s flushed out of the pocket.

Adding him to a commonly loaded wide receiver group at Ohio State would be a match made in heaven.

3. Mississippi State:

With Will Rogers entering the transfer portal, Mississippi State is a prime destination for Jefferson to settle into. Led by newly signed head coach Jeff Lebby. Lebby brings in a high-powered offense, formerly at Oklahoma.

Not only will the offense be surrounded by a talented QB in Jefferson, but another reason why the Bulldogs could land him is Mississippi itself. Jefferson is a Mississippi native and was recruited there when he was in high school.

Look out for Mississippi State to be in line to take a stab at Jefferson in the portal.

4. Washington:

One of my favorite offenses in the country is the University of Washington’s. With the help of Ryan Grubb as their offensive coordinator, the Huskies have been regarded as one of the best teams in college football.

Washington helped shape Michael Penix Jr. after he transferred from Indiana University. Now he is a Heisman Trophy candidate. If Jefferson wants to contend for a national championship and improve his offensive potential, Washington is one spot to look out for.

5. TCU:

Certainly the wild card school of this group: Texas Christian University. TCU has had its ups and downs these past few seasons, but after a disappointing end to their 2023 campaign, the Horned Frogs are in line for a superstar QB once again.

TCU becomes one of the dark horse candidates to land Jefferson due to their offensive coordinator Kendal Briles. Briles coached Jefferson to his best seasons yet at Arkansas back in 2021 and 2022, and if there is one man Jefferson can truly trust with his career, it’s Briles.
