Fantasy Hockey: Patrick Kane To The Red Wings

The last major fantasy hockey domino has fallen as Patrick Kane has decided to sign with the Red Wings. Now that Kane has landed in Detroit, how does this affect your fantasy league moving forward? Let’s have a quick chat.

As of this current moment, Kane is owned in roughly 52% of ESPN fantasy leagues. My guess is that a large chunk of those owners have Kane stashed on one of their IR spots. If available on the waiver wire, Kane is worth the add. There isn’t much of a risk of adding him as the last guy on your team if he’s still out there. It’s a matter of what owners should do in leagues that he’s already owned.

Should Kane owners look to move Kane? Should you look to buy Kane? Should the Detroit landing spot be viewed as a positive or negative? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself.

We know that Kane will be somewhere in the top six with the Wings. That means either being centered by Dylan Larkin or JT Compher. That means having Alex DeBrincat or David Perron as the left winger on the other side. When you think about it like that, Kane will have plenty of talent around him. Especially on the power play.

This one is all dependent on cost. I wouldn’t go and spend an arm and a leg on Kane. Especially coming off hip surgery. Just no guarantee he’s the same guy anymore. If someone offers you a real return for Kane, I think you should take it. Just don’t give him away for free. There is still value there. It’s not like he’s penalized for his poor defense in fantasy.
