Brian Cashman: Yankees ‘Really F-ing Good’ Despite No Playoffs

Brian Cashman, are you okay? Blink twice if you need help.

Somehow, it is getting even worse for the New York Yankees and their hapless President of Baseball Ops. ICYMI, Cashman delivered a tirade against the media Tuesday during his first availability of the young offseason. It was about as unhinged as we may have ever seen the longtime executive.

Conversations went off in so many different directions, from analytics, to player development, to failed trades and acquisitions and so much more.

Remember, the Yanks missed the playoffs by a country mile this year. Their biggest reason? Next to no run support. When Aaron Judge hurt his toe against the Dodgers in June, it was game, set and match in the Bronx. Giancarlo Stanton and DJ LeMahieu aged in dog years in 2023.

Anthony Rizzo played for months with a concussion after starting the season on fire. And Cashman even waved the white flag on the disastrous tenure of Josh Donaldson over the summer. This guy is paid millions of dollars to know baseball better than the general public. However, I am worried that we are seeing two different things on the field.

News Flash: The Yankees Are Not Good

Other than Judge, Gerrit Cole and Anthony Volpe‘s defense, there is not much good about this team right now. While the direct quote was in relation to the Yankees’ personnel and decision-making, the point very much stands. Cashman already admitted that he will look into adding two outfielders this Winter with rookie sensation Jasson Dominguez sidelined until the Summer.

We have not even gone over the disaster that is Carlos Rodon. He is already well on his way into Donaldson and Aaron Hicks territory with the fans if he’s not there already.

At minimum, the Yankees need two new starters, two more outfielders and more bullpen help. Furthermore, a Gleyber Torres extension or trade must be completed in the near future. There is a laundry list of things that must be done. Even though Cashman is against a $300 million payroll, that’s probably the only way this team can stay competitive.

Always remember the head of the snake here. Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner have ran this team into the ground for decades. The 2009 team that won the World Series was able to do so in spite of the egregious upstairs management.

Clearly, the best thing for all parties would be the clean house and sell the team to owners who actually want to make the Yankees a superpower again. However, they are already a financial superpower. The Steinbrenners will likely never sell because of how profitable the team will be, no matter the on-field performance.

Brian Cashman thinks the New York Yankees are really good. Did he watch a single game of the 2023 season? There are so many flaws even an elementary schooler could point them out.
