The verdict is in. Nobody cared about the 2023 World Series. The view numbers weren’t just bad. They were historically bad. The World Series that was played between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks in the year of 2023 was the least-watched World Series ever.
There are two real takeaways here:
A: This matchup had no juice. The Rangers were bad for a long time prior to this year. Plus, Jacob deGrom was hurt and Max Scherzer isn’t the same guy. Adolis Garcia is a nice story and Corey Seager is a beast. You still need more than that to move the needle for the pinnacle of the sport. Arizona is a snoozefest outside of Corbin Carroll. People weren’t interested in this matchup and it showed.
B: All of the rule changes were a waste of time and were stupid. Banning the shift, implementing the pitch clock, etc. All you did was alienate the fans that liked the sport while bringing in zero new fans. Congratulations on another fail job by Rob Manfred. Of course, the smart people knew those things were never the problem. Try hiring a better marketing team. That’s what Manfred needs to do. The problem isn’t the sport. It’s the idiot running the sport.
It still baffles me that the guy running baseball literally can’t speak. I have no idea how Manfred got his job but that guy will forever be a joke and the sport will keep declining as long as he’s in charge.
