Rob Manfred Botches GCU Name During The 2023 MLB Draft
I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again today. This sport really is run by a raging moron, isn’t it? It’s ridiculous MLB teams can’t trade standard draft picks. It’s even more ridiculous that MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, can’t correctly pronounce names.
The Oakland A’s selected Jacob Wilson out of Grand Canyon University sixth overall during the 2023 MLB Draft. Do yourself a favor and try to watch this clip of Manfred announcing the pick without laughing.

I’m sorry but it’s a big deal. We don’t elect President’s the can’t speak. We shouldn’t allow commissioners of sports leagues that can’t speak either. It’s a really big deal. For Jacob Wilson, this is a moment that he’s been dreaming of his whole life. Instead it’s now a meme of the MLB commissioner botching it.
It would be one thing if this was the first time Manfred botched a name while reading off the draft selections. I can promise you this has happened at least a dozen times. Go back and watch past MLB Draft’s. This is not a one time thing. I watch the MLB Draft almost every year. I can say this one is probably my favorite. The Red Sox select Anrew Benaninenananententi!
How long must we endure the awful years of Rob Manfred? The sport is already dying and he’s only further helping the sport do just that. He’s gotta go or baseball will continue to suffer the consequences.
Furthermore, Grand Canyon University deserves better. GCU, located in Phoenix, Arizona, have produced MLB talent in the past including Tim Salmon who played for the Angels for a long time.
