Arthur Smith Needs To Be Fired

I know they won’t because the Atlanta Falcons are 4-5 on the year, and realistically are in the hunt to win the god-awful NFC South, but I think we have seen enough. Arthur Smith is not cut out to be a head coach in the NFL and needs to be fired.

There are quite a few reasons why he needs to get the axe and don’t worry, we will get into them. But today’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings should be the final straw and will be the first topic we get into.

You absolutely cannot lose this game today. Minnesota went into the game starting Jaren Hall, who absolutely stinks. He started the game 5-for-6 for 78 yards. He was already playing decent before a concussion knocked him out of the game. But to let recently acquired Joshua Dobbs carve the defense both through the air and on the ground is unacceptable.

Dobbs has been in the building for less than a week and looked like he’s been there the entire season. How can you let this happen?

Can we talk about how Arthur Smith refuses to highlight or even play his two best offensive weapons? Smith absolutely hates Kyle Pitts. He refuses to get him involved in the offense, even though he is far and away the best-receiving threat they have. But they ignore Pitts and highlight Jonnu Smith of all players.

Does Arthur Smith not realize that Pitts is a unicorn and can break any play open? Pitts had a huge rookie season and has been non-existent since then. He’s wasting away in Atlanta and should probably request a trade. But he isn’t the only offensive player being wasted.

Arthur Smith and the Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson No. 8 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith wants to run a run-heavy offense, you would think you would ride your rookie, who is one of the better prospects to come out in recent memory. Yet it seems like over the last few weeks, Robinson has been forgotten.

If I was a head coach, I would want to hammer my high draft pick with carries or receptions. But Smith insists on getting Tyler Allgeier involved more and more, taking snaps from Robinson. This isn’t a slight of Allgeier, as I am a fan of his, but him getting redzone touches is absurd. Smith is doing a disservice to his young players and Falcons fans.

Today’s NFL is all about high-powered offenses. It’s about slinging the ball around and putting up points. This offense is not designed to do that and that is going to be their downfall. Atlanta has a very solid defense, but the offense is not designed to come from behind.

It starts with Arthur Smith, who needs to be fired. That is step one in building the Atlanta Falcons to being a bonafide division winner and a real threat in the NFC. Until that happens, no one is going to take them seriously.
