Red Sox Hire Craig Breslow As President Of Baseball Operations
The Red Sox finally got their guy. For those that were wondering, no, they did not give me an interview despite the fact that I deserved one based on how the Chaim Bloom tenure ended. Craig Breslow will become the new President of Baseball Operations.
Alex Speier and Michael Silverman of the Boston Globe both reported the news (Twitter link). Breslow has accepted the job and he’s won the sweepstakes that everyone seemed to turn down the chance to win.
Breslow, 43, was working for the Cubs as an assistant. He pitched 12 years at the MLB level. That included seven different teams but Breslow was part of that 2013 championship Red Sox team. Breslow, a Yale graduate, pitched 211 innings in five seasons with Boston. Breslow is also from New Haven, Connecticut so he gets to return home with this move.
Breslow enters a very advantageous situation, which is why I would have wanted this job. I have no idea why so many people declined to interview for the gig. The Sox are a borderline playoff team that just needs pitching. The farm system is totally loaded after Bloom dumped resources in that area. This team can be turned around quickly if Breslow knows what he’s doing. That, however, is far from a guarantee. He has no GM experience so we don’t really know what we’re getting.
