Sabres Sign Owen Power To Mega Long-Term Contract Extension

The Sabres have officially secured the twin towers. That’s right. Rasmus Dahlin was just extended by Buffalo making him one of the highest paid players in the sport. Now Owen Power has been locked up for the foreseeable future. Power and the Sabres have agreed to a seven year contract extension. Power will carry an AAV of $8.35 million during the duration of the deal.

The team was the first to report the news. They dropped a statement regarding the news.

“There’s a process that you go through,” Adams said. “But I couldn’t imagine those two not part of us long-term.”

Power and Dahlin were both number one overall picks. Power completed his rookie campaign a season ago and Buffalo wasted no time getting him signed long term. A nice luxury for Buffalo to build around when you have both of those guys on the blue line. Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens, and Mattias Samuelsson signed seven-year contracts a season ago. Buffalo has really done a great job locking up all of their young players.

Power, 20, is more of an offensive defenseman. He’s a really skilled puck mover but still needs to improve on the defensive end. He’s also a Bambi and still has plenty of time to clean up that part of the game. Still, he has all the makings of a future superstar. When Power dials in his defense and finishing ability, watching out.

The Sabres start their season tomorrow. For a full breakdown on the team, make sure to read the preview here!
