Buy Low Sell High: Week 5 Fantasy Football 2023

The draft and waiver wire are key to winning your fantasy football 2023 championships. But the ability to buy low and sell high is also a surefire way to take advantage of player’s highs and lows.

Last week I told you to buy Jaylen Waddle who found pay dirt for the first time this season. Similarly, I told you to sell Najee Harris for anything who put up yet another dud. With that said, let’s get into this week’s buy low sell high list.

Buy Low

Chris Olave

Chris Olave has put up two consecutive poor performances now. The second-year wide receiver finished Week 4 with just a single catch and four yards. Olave followed that up this week with two catches for 12 yards and a touchdown. While the numbers are middling, Olave is due to blow up. In Week 4, Olave was targeted six times and garnered 146 air yards. As for this week, the Saints dominated the Patriots from the get-go and ran the ball the rest of the way. Derek Carr will be throwing more than 26 times per game, and Olave will be a direct beneficiary of it.

Jahmyr Gibbs

This is more of a flag plant than anything else. Jahmyr Gibbs is a talent that will get more in the run game going forward. The No. 12 pick in this year’s draft is a threat in the passing game, the main issue is that the Lions have not needed to throw much the past few weeks. In dominant showings against the Packers and Falcons the Lions just needed to run the ball through David Montgomery. This has led to the lack of touches for Gibbs. Going forward, the Lions will have more competitive games and Gibbs will consequently be more involved. Get him low now while you can.

Sell High

George Kittle

George Kittle had his yearly multi-touchdown game and you should capitalize on it now by selling him. Kittle is in one of the most explosive offenses in the league which should only boost his value. However, being in such an offense that has so many mouths to feed makes Kittle’s performance very sporadic on a week-to-week basis. In the past five weeks of the season, Kittle has managed more than three receptions just once. Sell high on Kittle now to a tight end-needy team for a solid return.

DeAndre Hopkins

DeAndre Hopkins came to life and looked like the Hopkins of old this week. This did come against a porous Indianapolis Colts defense that consistently gives up big numbers to opposing pass catchers. Moreover, the Titans got away from their patented run game, running the ball just 20 times. Going forward, this offense will pass less while being less efficient through the air. Both of which means you should sell Hopkins while you can.

Trading this year in fantasy football 2023 can make or break your season. Suppose you can take advantage of when to buy low or sell high on a player. In that case, you’ll be giving yourself a significantly better advantage as the season progresses, ideally to a fantasy football championship.
