Raiders Release Chandler Jones Following His Arrest
The Las Vegas Raiders released defensive end Chandler Jones after he was arrested Friday in Las Vegas, Nev. The team released a statement following his arrest.
“The Raiders are hopeful that Chandler Jones receives the care that he needs. He, his family, and all those involved are in our thoughts. As this is now a legal matter, we will not be providing further comment.”
Before his arrest, Jones was live streaming on social media and made some odd statements about Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels.
“Y’all don’t know what Josh McDaniels really did to Aaron Hernandez. … Y’all thought Aaron Hernandez killed himself in jail,” Jones said, breaking down and then cutting off the stream.
For context, Chandler Jones and Hernandez were teammates in New England, and Josh McDaniels was the team’s offensive coordinator.
Jones has been away from the Raiders since Labor Day weekend after making multiple social media posts bashing owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler and McDaniels. The team placed Jones on the non-football injury/illness list on Sept. 20.
Jones posted on social media Monday night that he was taken to a hospital “against my will” last week by the Las Vegas Fire Department and was later taken to a behavioral health facility. He also continued posting on social media Thursday and live-streamed outside his house while talking about various topics.
Jones was entering his second season of a three-year, $51 million dollar deal he signed prior to 2022. Hopefully, he can get the help he needs and potentially return to playing football. The 33-year-old former All-Pro still has the potential to contribute to a team, but it will be dependent on his mental state and whether teams are willing to take the risk or not.
Chandler Jones posted bond Friday and will have to go to court on Dec. 4, according to the Clark County court records.
