Cam Akers is in the dog house again. Should you buy Kyren Williams fantasy football stock? There is an easy answer to this question. (Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports)

Kyren Williams: Should You Buy His Fantasy Football Stock?

Sean McVay clearly hates Cam Akers and Kyren Williams is the new RB1 with the Rams. The Rams are making Akers inactive and will attempt to trade him again. Now that Akers is no longer part of the equation, should you be buying fantasy stock of Williams?

I think the answer to that question has to be a resounding yes. I didn’t exactly love Williams coming out of college, but he did post quality numbers at Notre Dame. Williams rushed for 27 touchdowns during his final two years at Notre Dame. He’s always been a tough runner with more wiggle than he gets credit for.

I mostly didn’t like him because he ran a 4.65 at the Combine (link to combine notes from that year). I just thought that number was going to be a problem and you were probably never going to get a star back. Thus far, Williams looks pretty serviceable at the NFL level though. The former Notre Dame product is averaging 3.6 yards per carry on 29 attempts through two games. He’s also scored three rushing touchdowns.

Again, I don’t think Williams is super talented. You’re not getting a Pro Bowl caliber back. With that said, there are a lot of things working in his favor from a fantasy perspective. The volume is going to be there. Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans are now the backups. This is Williams’ job until further notice. He’s not a total zero in the passing game either. Williams can catch and pick up yardage through the air.

This is why more and more people are embracing the zero RB approach. Guys like this are just going to keep emerging as the season progresses. Williams has the look of a back that’s going to produce as an RB2 for the rest of the season and didn’t cost you anything to acquire. He’s certainly not free anymore and definitely has fantasy value moving forward.
