Sean McVay really hates Cam Akers. We’re not sure why but Akers is back in the dog house again. The Rams are making Akers a healthy scratch heading into Week 2 of the 2023-24 NFL Season and will now try to trade him again.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports was the first to report the news:
We have since heard from Akers who seems to claim that he has no idea what’s going on.
I guess we shouldn’t be totally surprised since this happened last year, but I thought we were over this. The former Florida State product was really good last year. Akers averaged 5.68 yards per carry during the final month of the season and started to look back to the guy pre injury. It wasn’t exactly the best Week one performance but this really can’t be explained outside of McVay hating him. What else could it be?
What’s the point in this? The Rams tried to trade him last year and didn’t find a taker. Why the song and dance? At this point, it’s starting to become a bad look for the Rams. Nobody wants to spend draft picks on running backs. Especially on Akers who is in the final year of his contract. If the Rams want to move on, why not just cut the guy then?
There should really be two takeaways from this news.
A: Kyren Williams is going to be a stud in fantasy.
B: We have probably seen the last of Akers in a Rams jersey. I like his chances in another uniform. We’ll see who that next team is.
