Jasson Dominguez was putting on a show at the MLB level after getting called up during the final stages of the season. Nothing has gone right for the Yankees and New York has even gotten bad news on the man that is referred to as the Martian. Dominguez is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss around 9-10 months.
MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch was the first to report the news:
“It’s definitely very shocking news,” Domínguez said recently after he was diagnosed with a torn UCL, per Hoch. “You’re never expecting for this to be the result. Now, understanding what happened, we have to look forward and go through it.”
Dominguez, 20, sported a batting line of .258/.303/.677 during his 31 plate appearances with the MLB team this year. The power was probably the most impressive part of his brief stint posting a .980 OPS, four home runs. Dominguez also became the youngest player in Yankees history to homer in their MLB debut. That homer was hit off of Justin Verlander, go figure. Definitely a young player the Yankees can be excited about for the future.
Calling up Dominguez is going to end up being a mistake long term by New York. Had the Yankees kept Domginuez in the minors, he wouldn’t have burned any MLB service time. This year was a lost year anyway. Now Dominguez will burn service time despite the fact that he will miss significant time next year. New York probably lost an entire year of control by this move.
