NBA Ref Eric Lewis retires amid investigations into burner account
Well, Boston Celtics fans, I’m sure this news is a punch in the gut for you all. As your lord and savior, Eric Lewis has retired following the ongoing investigation of burner accounts on Twitter that seemed to adamantly defend Lewis’s officiating.
The NBA announced his retirement earlier Wednesday, as well as revealing the closing of the investigation following the news, which likely played a role in his decision to retire rather than let the investigation reveal the truth.
The Twitter account in question (@CuttliffBlair) was filled with Tweets attacking anyone who criticized the officiating of Eric Lewis in any way.
Another damning piece of evidence is that one of the five accounts of this burner follower is the George Mason Women’s basketball team, where Lewis’s wife happens to be the head coach. That’s one helluva a coincidence if that’s the case.
Psst psst … this is not a coincidence and is 100 percent a burner account for Eric Lewis. We unfortunately won’t get to know for sure now, but I at least can say with 99 percent certainty that it’s an Eric Lewis burner.
Why else would he just suddenly retire? If there was nothing to hide and the account wasn’t his, then he would have no problem letting the investigation run its course.
The account has since been deleted, but thankfully for us, compilations of his tweets have been saved. So do enjoy seeing a grown man get into arguments with trolls on Twitter.
As you can see, Lewis was practically responding to every single tweet that questioned his officiating. I mean maybe there is someone out there whose life mission it is to protect the legacy of Eric Lewis. But I seriously doubt that is the case.
I did mention the Celtics earlier and how this news likely hurts for them, which may be a little confusing to you. But it’s why Lewis started this burner account and started responding to people.
The Celtics were 54-29 in games he officiated, which caused people to start asking some questions with some saying he was corrupt and actively helping the Celtics win.
Lewis had previously been an NBA referee for 20 years and officiated playoff games as recently as last year–most notably the Celtics’ Game 7 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
But alas, we have seen the end of Eric Lewis as an NBA official, and I for one, won’t lose sleep over it. On the bright side, he can now openly tweet from his actual account and not have to rely on burners anymore. I guess there really is a silver lining to anything.
