The Dolphins Are Idiots If They Trade For Jonathan Taylor

Mike Grier is really dumb. I’m starting to become worried that brother Chris lost a few brain cells. Jonathan Taylor is clearly unhappy in Indianapolis and reports have surfaced that the Dolphins are very interested in acquiring the former Wisconsin product.

Let’s just make one thing clear on this Taylor saga. The Miami Dolphins would be complete and utter fools to trade for Jonathan Taylor.

A: Taylor wants a new contract. You’re not just trading for Taylor. You’re also signing him to a ridiculously high priced new contract too. We’ve seen how these expensive running back contracts have turned out. Have any of them been worth it? Le’Veon Bell, Ezekiel Elliott, etc. Even Dalvin Cook who was really good got cut because Minnesota couldn’t afford it. To just bend over and give Taylor what he wants from a contractual standpoint is insane.

B: The guy isn’t healthy. Why am I investing resources into a guy that isn’t healthy? Explain that to me.

This is something I talked about in the past but will happily bring it up again. Taylor was run into the ground at Wisconsin. Solid player but was never going to be someone that aged well. We’re already seeing that transpire.

Taylor was limited to 11 games last year and is currently on the PUP list. He’s got a bad ankle and can’t really walk right now. Why in the world would you dump resources into a player at a replaceable position that isn’t healthy? It couldn’t make less sense.

C: Taylor is probably worth a 4th round pick. That’s what D’Andre Swift got traded for. The Colts want a first round pick back or something similar to what the Panthers got for Christian McCaffrey. I don’t begrudge the Colts for asking for that but it’s an insane price point.

Taylor isn’t as good as McCaffrey. I don’t think he’s better than Swift either but his name value is worth more. Dumping a bunch of middle-round picks for Taylor should be considered a non-starter. Especially when you could select a younger running back and three other players with those mid-round picks.

D: If the Dolphins wanted another running back, why didn’t they just buck up for Dalvin Cook? He wanted to play there and is from Miami. Also would have mitigated the risk by getting Cook on a one year deal. Why did you take Devon Achane in the third round if you were just going to cream yourself over Taylor?

Miami had cap space for Cook. Why let him sign with the Jets if they wanted a back? If the money was equal, Cook would be in Miami right now where he’s from. Why would you then turn around and spend even more resources on a riskier investment?

E: Have you taken a look at the Dolphins cap sheet moving forward? It’s ugly. Miami has some space but it’s also very misleading. If Tua is healthy, he’s going to need to be paid. Christian Wilkins already should have been paid. You can’t let Wilkins go. Jaylen Waddle is going to need a sizeable raise very soon.

F: The offensive line stinks. If you’re going to give up draft picks, why wouldn’t you do it for someone who can actually block? You would think that would be a higher priority considering the quarterback is one concussion away from never playing again.

I’m not sure why Miami is even involved. They shouldn’t even be calling because trading for Taylor couldn’t make less sense.
