Here’s why a WWE legend’s son is facing 45 years in jail
WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase and both of his sons are in hot water and facing major consequences after a $20 million lawsuit.
DiBiase Sr. was known as the “Million Dollar Man” during his WWE run in the 1980s. The Hall of Famer and his sons shockingly misappropriated federal funds meant for struggling families in Mississippi. DiBiase Sr. has been repaying some of the squandered money since 2021, but his son, Ted DiBiase Jr. is facing serious jail time.
Known for his brief tenure in WWE and pairing with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes, DiBiase Jr. could be better known for his alleged crimes very soon. The 40-year-old has been charged with six counts of wire fraud, two counts of “theft concerning programs receiving federal funds,” four counts of money laundering, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit theft concerning receiving federal funds.
If his charges lead to conviction, the former WWE World Tag Team Champion faces up to five years for the conspiracy charges, up to 20 years for every single count of wire fraud, and a maximum of 10 years for every count of theft and money laundering. According to Clarion Ledger, the corruption case is the largest in Mississippi history. DiBiase Jr. has pleaded not guilty.
The WWE Hall of Famer claims the charges against his son are “garbage”:
During an interview with Scott Johnson, the WWE veteran addressed the allegations and noted that not only were they doing good, but those heading the case were simply looking for a scapegoat.
“We’re doing good,” said DiBiase. “And all of that is a bunch of garbage. I’m not at liberty to talk about it but you know it’s kind of like they’re looking for a scapegoat. We’re caught in the middle of it. If I didn’t have a celebrity name they wouldn’t even be looking at me.”

It remains to be seen if the charges will stick or not, as the case is still ongoing. Interestingly, the former WWE star’s half-brother, Mike DiBiase also had a notable run-in with authorities. Back in 2014, the former wrestler had a lengthy stand-off with police due to an outstanding arrest warrant but was apprehended after seven hours.
