Lamar Jackson is ‘grateful’ for OC Todd Monken

The arrival of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken has filled Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson with enthusiasm.

During the broadcast of the Ravens’ preseason game, Jackson expressed how excited he his to run the new offense.

It’s great,” Jackson said, via PFT.com. “I’ve been sending him plays of stuff I’ve been seeing, and he’s been putting them in practice, and they’re working. So it’s like, I’m glad he’s listening to me, man.

Monken served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia for the past three seasons. During his time in Athens, he played a pivotal role in guiding the Bulldogs to consecutive national championships, with the team amassing a total of 98 points across the pair of championship games.

In the NFL, his high-powered offensive schemes have had success as well. He served as the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. The Bucs led the league in passing yards under Monken.

However, Tampa Bay turned the ball over a league-high 35 times that year, so the scheme comes with risks. Lamar Jackson is good at not turning the ball over, but he’s not the most accurate quarterback. He’ll need to focus on refining that to further elevate his overall performance in this high flying offense.

The meeting room – I wish you guys could see the meeting rooms,” Jackson said. “He’s full of expressing what he’s got going on in his mind. His mind is everywhere. It’s like, ‘I love you as a coach right now.’ You know, I’m grateful for him.

The 2019 MVP signed a five-year, $260 million deal after months of negotiating with the Ravens. Jackson, who’s 49-21 as a starter, has only eclipsed 3,000 passing yards in a season once. He’ll be looking forward to “less running and more throwing,” as he stated in an OTA practice back in May.
