Why was WWE star Jey Uso arrested?

Jey Uso recently had the biggest shot in his career, but only a few years ago he was struggling with his personal demons and even arrested.

While his twin brother, Jimmy, has had more run-ins with the law, unfortunately, both Usos have had struggles with substances. Luckily for Jey Uso, he quickly overcame his demons and enjoyed a far more substantial push by WWE as a result.

Back in 2018, Jey Uso was arrested on a Sunday for Driving While Intoxicated, following a recent live WWE event in Hidalgo, Texas. Uso was pulled over that morning at 1 AM for a routine traffic violation, but officers noticed that he was intoxicated. According to ProWrestlingSheet, the Bloodline star then failed a sobriety test, leading to his arrest. He was released the following day on a $500 bond.

Jey Uso has since become a prominent name in WWE, and back in 2020 even had a singles run while his brother still continued to suffer from his personal demons. Jimmy’s past mistakes have actually had real-life consequences that have interfered with his WWE career. According to WrestlingNews, the star is not allowed in Canada and needs to request special access into the country for live events.

Did WWE ever consider having Jey Uso defeat Roman Reigns?

While it seemed like Jey Uso had a legitimate chance to defeat Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso quickly dashed his brother’s hopes. However, it seems like Jimmy wasn’t the sole reason for the star’s loss, as WWE Creative never intended for him to dethrone The Tribal Chief.

During a recent appearance on McGuire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer revealed some insider information on Jey Uso’s feud with Roman Reigns.

“I’d never heard anyone even discuss that as a possibility. They’ve got plans going for Roman Reigns as champion for months down the line. So Jey Uso wasn’t gonna win. I got to think Cody Rhodes’ [is] eventually winning it,” he said. “So it’s just a question of, you know, keeping him hot enough and, you know, Brock did a great job with Cody. I think that was Brock’s best match in years.”

Jey Uso will likely clash with his brother at next year’s WrestleMania, where the two will settle their differences. After that, it’s unclear whether or not The Usos will reunite anytime soon, especially if Roman Reigns is still The Tribal Chief.
