Mike Breen Is Sad Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy Were Fired By ESPN

It’s the end of an era. Mark Jackson got fired yesterday. Jeff Van Gundy was fired during the June 30th ESPN Layoffs. Mike Breen is the only member of the trio left standing. When the NBA opens its season, Breen will no longer have Jackson and Van Gundy by his side.

How does Breen feel about ESPN firing his two former co-hosts? Sad and shocked is probably the right way to describe it.

“It’s sad because we really thought we had something special and that’s going to be the thought going forward is that we were able to do it a lot longer than anybody ever did,” Breen told The Post. “It’s something we’ll all treasure, but we just wish it was a little bit longer.

“You don’t expect it, because it was such a great team and to have it completely broken up was a surprise.”

Feel free to click that link from the New York Post in that quote above. There are additional quotes from Breen in the story. It’s pretty clear that he’s not thrilled about the shake-up in the booth.

Breen, Jackson, and Van Gundy had really good chemistry. I understand that ESPN is borderline bankrupt but I’m not sure how this solves their issue. Doris Burke will receive a promotion. Doc Rivers has also been hired as the other member of the new trio. Time will tell how the new hires pair with Breen. The positive is that regardless of how the new trio shakes out, we will still get to hear plenty of BANGS from Breen this year. That hasn’t been taken away from us yet.
