ESPN Fires Mark Jackson

ESPN continues its mass firings, as Mark Jackson has learned that he is out at ESPN. Jackson now joins his former co-broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy, who was fired a couple of weeks ago, as both will now be on the job hunt.

Many thought Jackson was safe after he made it through the initial slaughter. But ESPN has more sacrifices to make, and this time the blood of Mark Jackson is what was needed–showing that nobody at that company is safe.

ESPN has had mass layoffs before and will probably have more in the future. It’s becoming a tradition for them, realizing they are paying way too many people and cleaning house like they’re prepping for a yard sale.

Mike Breen though is one of the few who seems to be safe and is the last man standing between the former three-man crew. For now, it appears that Doris Burke and Doc Rivers will fill the voids and work alongside Breen, which is a downgrade from the former duo in my opinion. Nothing against Doris Burke, but I don’t think I can listen to Doc Rivers call the entirety of an NBA game. My ears just wouldn’t be able to stand it.

This firing is a bit surprising given the delayed nature. With ESPN, you can’t ever be too surprised. I’m sure both Van Gundy and Jackson will find jobs rather soon and forget all about this.

They both have a clear understanding of the game and always seemed to have a great chemistry that oddly meshed well. Their disagreements were always funny to listen to and made games more interesting as an unbiased fan.

ESPN is cleaning house, and when that’s the case, nobody is safe. Jackson learned the hard way. I think this is a downgrade and will again hurt ESPN. But they made their bed, now they gotta sleep in it.

It’s really bad at ESPN right now and I’m not sure they are going to be able to fix it. The once great company I grew up with seems to be a sinking vessel. I can’t help but feel like it’s too late.

But if any of the ESPN layoffs want to come here and continue working in the world of sports. They will be welcome at Vendetta with open arms. Just make sure to do it before it’s too late.
